When I was young I thought “who needs 3 computers at once ?”
Now I get it.
The real question is : Why did you invite anyone over, before having a guest VLAN set up ? Classic beginner mistake.

2·4 days agoI am very annoyed that I have to enable cloudflare’s JavaScript on so many websites, I would much prefer if more of them used Anubis so I didn’t have third-party JavaScript running as often.
( coming from an annoying user who tries to enable the fewest things possible in NoScript )

Television@piefed.social•What TV series bungled a great concept that you'd like to see tried again?
18·7 days agoI want a faithful adaptation of Asimov’s Foundation, where it’s the 1940s in space like in the novels.
Guy gets to planet, immediately buys a physical newspaper with physical cash. Takes a taxi cab. Everyone smokes constantly. Space soldiers are bribed with dishwashers and fridges, computers barely exist. Every desk has an integrated atomic ashtray to vaporise cigarette butts. Scientists carry bulky pocket calculators.

5·8 days agoIn moments like this I always wonder if I should temporarily make my PC unusable by reselling the component that’s overpriced.
Then wait out the shortage and buy 4x as much RAM then x)

Technology@lemmy.world•A Viral Chinese Wristband Claims to Zap You Awake. The Public Says 'No Thanks’English
7·10 days agoThe real solution is humane working hours. If you can’t wake up on time, it means you shouldn’t even be waking up at that time.
Some people sleep late. That’s normal. It should be accommodated for.
Good idea, maybe. Neurons are unbelievably efficient compared to circuits ; I think bioengineering is going to be the future for many industries.
The savings to be made, in terms of money and resources alike, are just staggering. Our current approach to almost every domain is just brute force with a few extra steps, computers included.

Television@piefed.social•Disney Spent More On ‘Andor’ Than Any Of Its ‘Star Wars’ Movies
141·10 days agoFor once it makes sense. Andor is the only good thing to come out of this license since Return of the Jedi… (Not counting video games)
I maye have a soft spot for The Last Jedi, but a shit sandwich with a thin layer of caviar in the middle is still a shit sandwich.
(Also maybe Rogue One, I haven’t seen it yet)

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It was best as a silly toy language in the 1990's...
304·10 days agoYes and no. “Real” programmers care about engineering choices ; and JS is the cardboard of programming languages.
Perfect for packaging (which in this metaphor is UI), horrible for building a bridge with. And vice-versa, I wouldn’t try and make amazon packaging out of reinforced concrete.
That sounds hilarious
