  • From Trump’s UN speech that’s bothering me:

“We know and I know and I get to view it all the time. Sir, would you like to see? And I look at weapons that are so powerful that we just can’t ever use them. If we ever use them, the world literally might come to an end. There would be no United Nations to be talking about. There would be no nothing. Just a few years ago, reckless experiments overseas gave us a devastating global pandemic. Yet, despite that worldwide catastrophe, many countries are continuing extremely risky research into bioweapons and man-made pathogens. This is unbelievably dangerous. to prevent potential disasters.

I’m announcing today that my administration will lead a international effort to enforce biological weapons convention which is going to be meeting with the top leaders of the world by pioneering an Al verification system that everyone can trust. Hopefully the UN can play a constructive role and it will also go be one of the early projects under Al. Let’s see how good it is because a lot of people are saying it could be one of the great things ever.

But it also can be dangerous, but it could be put to tremendous use and tremendous good.

And this would be an example of that. Not only is the UN not solving the problems it should too often, it’s actually creating new problems for us to solve. The best example is the number one political issue of our time, the crisis of uncontrolled migration. It’s uncontrolled. Your countries are being ruined. The United Nations is funding an assault on Western countries and their borders.”

  • They definitely seem to have real art on their site like the article says. I wonder if they had a mixture of things and rather than remove their AI generated stuff they fought with the management. Or they were just flat out asked to leave instead of given opportunity to fix it. I know a lot of traditional artists using AI now for posing and composition layout but they still do the panting etc. But it does look stifled sometimes. Like you can tell it’s been influenced by AI. It makes me sad. Especially since one of the artists used to be super fluid and expressive and now everything feels like they’re painting vectors :( which their merch distributor loves and encourages because it’s easier to print but I think it’s literally killed their business. I don’t think it’s “competitive” I think it’s convenient for a select few and killed their creativity. Fuck AI art.

  • I didn’t mean anything negative toward antidepressants other than that lowered sex drive is often a side effect of many of the most commonly prescribed medications. And yes, there are many real reasons we see a consistent plague of depression in modern society.

I would argue though that we are in one of the most food secure times in all of history. And are actually positively positioned for meeting our energy and resource needs.

Our problem has more to do with management and greed than with actual reality of our situation as a species. If we were making better choices collectively we could reduce a tremendous amount of the harm we associate with population sizes and lifestyle. But many old systems would have to die, we have to let go of a lot of what we just assume to be ‘facts of life’ and start evaluating the intrinsic value of things differently. Meaning measuring success with a new set of rules.

But it’s very hard to even consider when most of us are just trying to get from one day to the next. We feel trapped in someone else’s fabricated cage. Hence, the depression and hopelessness that’s universally felt. But all in all, I think we’re going to make it to be honest. We have to, or we will indeed fail as a species. The cage looks small but it’s not real. That’s what I remind myself anyway.

  • This feels more like cat behavior. They want to cut a deal. Orcas for whatever reason, really have zero interest in predation of humans. I’m curious to know if any local fisherman in the area know these whales. The researches should talk to them. I bet this is a multigenerational tradition for this group. They want to trade for something locals give them, or they just think humans are helpless and that boat has been hanging around doing a pretty crappy job at hunting. No fish, no seals, no sharks— they just sit there.
