In fairness, the group talking about this (Run for something) has existed since 2017 and elected about a thousand progressives in local and state government. They haven’t been idle before this, just seems like there’s more people interested now

I mean Biden has already started the process for rescheduling weed to schedule 3 for medical legalization. Process is long but it’s at the tail end with the final hearing in December. It’s not too hard to see Harris just using the same process but asking for full descheduling rather than asking them for schedule 3. Or if Dems get a trifecta, she could also try to get congress to legalize directly in law (faster than the executive branch only action)

They don’t agree on it. Biden only supported legalized medical marijuana, and to his credit, he did actually start the process to do that. He order rescheduling to schedule 3 which basically legalizes medical marijuana. It should go into effect around December as the DEA has dragged out the process. It’s not instant executive order to reschedule. The law lays out a rather long process, but we’re nearly at the end of it at this point

Yes? Harris is saying she wants it legalized medically and recreationally. She’s supporting full legalization here and she has earlier in the campaign

He is, though he’s wrong about Trump’s plans being anything beneficial in the long term. But even what he’s saying about any part of it being harmful is a contradiction of Trump’s claims about the economy

In a close election, any decent percentage matters and they are not spread out evenly at all. For instance, there are 500,000 in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania was won by only 42k in 2016

Plus a million in Florida - that can make the florida senate race a little more competitive. New York downballot races are a big part of why dems lost the house in 2022, and there’s also around a million in New York

They should certainly have representation, yes, but that’s not to say the Puerto Ricans in swing states / competitive downballot won’t matter either

There are large number of Puerto Ricans in many swing states (+ important downballot races), and Republicans have been trying to court their vote. This isn’t doing them any favors

It doesn’t even have to change minds all that much to matter. If any trump-leaning Puerto Ricans just don’t turnout, it matters a lot

Puerto Ricans can and do move and there’s large numbers of them in swing states. There’s 450 thousand just in Pennsylvania

52% odds of winning on 538 is not really favored. 538 itself calls that even odds. A 2% difference is noise from polling

Also keep in mind that the 538 odds have been heavily influenced lately by right wing aligned groups flooding the average. The polling from higher quality groups hasn’t really changed all that much, still largely suggesting Harris with a slight lead

From the comments made in the town hall, it sounds like the room itself was hot. Given how trump is usually super late to almost all of his events, people were probably standing for a while in a hot room

That’s a misleading picture of it. Two people fainted, then paused for a bit, resumed and switched the format to having a speaker ask him questions. A couple of questions in he said “Let’s not do any more questions. Let’s just listen to music. Who the hell wants to listen to questions” and then wrapped up and seemed like he was done, but processed to bob to music for 39 minutes
