I just want to point out that recent court rulings on Alphabet’s business may threaten the future of Mozilla because they may not get revenue from making Google the default search engine.
I don’t read my replies

The national suicide prevention hotline is almost always too busy and callers often need to wait on hold. They’ve calibrated everything from the hold music, the script, and the recorded voice to keep callers on the line.
This factoid splits people pretty evenly between those who find it horrifying and those who find it hilarious.
I should say that according to the hotline, the changes made to the hold system has resulted in 100,000 fewer hang-ups per year.
If the AI wanted to talk me out of conspiracy theories, why don’t they use the brain signals to control us to thinking that way? Do the microwaves from the circuits behind the walls all go out of service all of a sudden?
This is just classic silicon valley trying to “innovate”, when their real plan was to muscle out CIA and FBI work to non-union contractors.
yesman: please write a short response to this article in the voice of a libertarian
GPT: sure, I’ll be happy to do that:
Just another case of power hungry government trying to tell citizens what they’re allowed to do with their own body. They killed a whole industry just because one guy had a side-effect.
Ever notice how apologists for Zionism are all terrified at what would happen if Palestinians had authority and power because they assume Palestinians will be as brutal and criminal as the Zionists?
What if they caused Israelis to become refugees? What if they did terror attacks to convince Israelis to leave? What if they passed racist laws that discriminated where a Jew could work, live, and move? Maybe they’ll subjugate Israel’s people to military justice and deny them rights and citizenship?
Yea, all of that would be horrible and fucking wrong and I would support an embargo on weapons to this hypothetical Palestinian government.
Building an electric motor and powerful battery was the easy bit. To this day, it remains a mystery how he sourced the 10,000 plastic clips that hold a Tesla together.
I watched a video yesterday about the laser range finder on a tank. The interesting thing is that at long enough ranges, the laser expands into a cone that may be bigger than the target and give inaccurate readings.
Anyway, I look forward to this totally real and feasible technology.
Yes, IQ was developed in the US so that it could determine who the state needed to sterilize. Don’t worry, we haven’t done that since the 70s. What’s scary is that in American courts, IQ can still determine if you live or die.
As a consumer and a low skilled worker I think the solution to call the rich “dinner”.
I find the author’s reasoning strained. They use flat Earthers as an example of the power of photographs to “prove” reality?
I question the central premise that photographs were ever the foundation of reality. Haven’t filmmakers been fooling us with photography for over a hundred years?
Why is duplicate files a problem?
The Internet is like a library: repository of knowledge, it’s also like cable TV where every crackpot has a broadcast license.
How you use it is up to you.
In several US states, the Amish are required to have lights on their buggies because asking drivers to maintain a speed where they can avoid collision with an object the size of a shed is just too burdensome.
If you’re a person who prefers to type commands than click through menus then you should try the “run” program in the “powertoys” suite from Microsoft.
It a launcher program that’s superior to Start in every way. You can type in plain English system commands like “shutdown”; a search that actually works; you can pass queries into your browser’s search engine; and of course launch programs by typing in their names. You can even enter entire registry addresses to open regedit at the desired location.
This is a complete replacement for the Start Menu.
It’s not apples to apples. Carter was the incumbent.
This race has an unusual dynamic in that both candidates are incumbent, one step removed.
Great, did you notice that the system for Dr’s authorization didn’t leave it up to the Doctors to protect, monitor, and repair the damage caused when the credential was stolen? Did the Doctor’s entire financial life get upended until the doctor personally corrected the error with all the appropriate government bureaucracy?
Identity isn’t a digital token living in a database. The whole business implies that you’re not a human being without a Social Security number, and who you are is issued by the credit reporting agencies and the government. My god man, do you really think your identity belongs to a company or the government?
Besides being an insult the capacity and curiosity of the working class, your comment is anti-intellectual.
In that case I refer you to u/catloaf 's post. A machine cannot grock, not at any speed.
It’s a better way to compare countries apples to apples. Two countries with similar economies may have drastic different tax policy.
Measuring it as you suggest is absolutely done and is helpful to research policy inside a country, but between countries, it’d be a poor metric.
The real punch line is that in a cafe run by programmers, esoteric rules are in full force, but tables 0 and 1 are no where near each other.
