DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•I had enough of big tech and their actions, so created this guide to make switching as easy as possibleEnglish
23·2 months agoI see Qobuz on there. IMHO, Bandcamp should be your first stop when buying music. If it’s not on bandcamp, Qobuz seems to have just about everything else, more or less, that someone might want. I’ve complained about them in the past for making me download my purchases one track at a time, which can be pretty annoying if you’re buying a super-duper-deluxe version of an album, but, I am pleased to say, they no longer do this; you can download the complete albums you’ve purchased in a zip file. But only once. Stuff can disappear for annoying rights reasons, and I think they even say, once you buy your music download it immediately, because it may not be there on a subsequent visit.

2·2 months agoFrom the article:
The inability to video conference reliably [on LibreWolf]
Could someone elaborate on this? Also
I like my browsers to remember when I have zoomed in on a tab
If she means the browser remembering the zoom levels on different pages, this can be done IIRC by disabling resist fingerprinting in about:config and then installing the canvas blocker addon which is not as good as RFP, but for me at least has been a good compromise privacy-wise.Out of date info! Have a look at this instead: https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js/issues/1775

12·2 months agoMe, I’m sticking with LibreWolf. If Mozilla collapses, I hope they can keep on going without them.

To each his/her/their own, but just realize that Zuck will be spying on you the entire time you’re on Instagram. Have you looked at Pixelfed?

Not the Onion@lemmy.ml•Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner says nobody ever told him the large SS-Totenkopf tattoo he's had on his chest for the last 18 years is a Nazi symbolEnglish
29·3 months agoHe should do a photo op where he gets the skull removed and has a hammer and sickle tattooed there instead.
EDIT: Ok, looks like he went with a Celtic doggie-knot thingie instead.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I just found out my fiancee wants to switch to linux, lets start a distro war, what should be her first? + other questionsEnglish
61·4 months agoSince Mrs. Erinaceus is considering switching, I was going to try and steer her towards Mint, but since she’s a gamer and I’m not (I know, boring) perhaps this would not be the best choice? Please tell me more.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•anybody else noticing some pages hang loading for ages on mobile?English
4·5 months agoOk, so I’m not the only one! If I hit “quit” instead of just swiping the window away when I’m done, the next time I open Fennec it doesn’t hang, but I usually forget to do this. I also have it set to delete everything (except, I think, cookies) on “quit.”

Linux@lemmy.ml•For my mom the year of the Linux desktop it's already overEnglish
111·6 months agoReally out of my depth here, but anyway—
What model computer does your mom have? Does it by any chance have solid state drives that are RAID 0?
Have you tried Linux Mint? After really struggling with Fedora, I was able to get Mint up and running after a few minimal problems and haven’t looked back since.
Actually, full disclosure, I have to water down the coffee Mrs. Erinaceus makes, otherwise I’m risking heart palpitations and panic attacks, hence the need for a larger mug. Hmmm…I wonder if I could somehow learn to make the coffee myself… 🤔
If only they sold coffee mugs! Every time I look somewhere for swag, even if they do have coffee mugs, they’re just these diddly little 10 oz things–not big enough for this coffee achiever!

Do you agree with what it says about Lemmy further down?
