While some viewers may have previously enjoyed the extended version of Have I Got News For You, we must consider what works best for both BBC One and BBC iPlayer. As a result, we’ll be focusing on delivering audiences the best possible version of the show.

Worth considering that it’s shit as cost-cutting too. The live episodes are still longer than either TV format, and historically, it’s been edited down into a 30 minute version and a 45 minute version.

By cutting out the 45 minute version, what are they really saving beyond a few hours of editing work for a freelance video editor and a bit of hard drive space?

Anyway, if it’s shit as cost cutting, I guess that makes your other points a bit more likely.

Yeah, the bulk of the cost is actually running the live show, the cost of an editor is relatively low. Then, the difference in cost between an editor making two cuts and making one cut is pretty negligible.
