While some viewers may have previously enjoyed the extended version of Have I Got News For You, we must consider what works best for both BBC One and BBC iPlayer. As a result, we’ll be focusing on delivering audiences the best possible version of the show.
The real problem is the License fee has been fixed in place and used as a political foot ball for years.
The current license fee is £174.50. In 2010 it was £145.50. Sounds like it’s gone up - but actually inflation has been rolling away - the 2010 license fee should be £226.72 now.
So in reality the license fee has been cut by 30% over the last 15 years. It is no wonder the BBC is constantly having to cut back - costs have gone up with inflation for them as for everyone else, but it’s income has not. They’re at the point where they’re so desperate even small cuts like this are seen as worthwhile.
Politicians get away with this crap as people don’t understand inflation. The same nonsense goes on with pay for public sector workers like Doctors and Nurses, and even the budget for Health and Education etc.
The only thing that is actually indexed linked is… Pensions. Surprise surprise, tory voters incomes are income protected while everyone else in society is not.
