God isn’t so awesome in the NT. Jesus and Paul are going around condemning people to hell and we are told that God will chain a women to her bed, men will rape her, and all her kids born of rape will die. Jesus himself creates a parable of a king (where spoiler he is the king) who will one day demand that the bodies of all those oppose him will be cast in front of him.

As bad as the OT god was he didn’t sentence anyone to hell or tell people that there would be oceans of human blood one day.
