I’ve had two wisdom teeth removed as a teenager since they were growing horizontally. The two others were left there because they were pretty far in, removing them was riskier and they weren’t causing any trouble. Gum was tender lately and this morning I realized this is because a wisdom tooth just erupted.

Moral of the story: there’s no age for coming out.

I had a wisdom tooth I didn’t use for a long time. Nothing bad happened with it, I just had it out eventually as it was sort of annoying. As long as you keep it clean, there’s no reason it should just rot.

I brushed and flossed mine twice a day and it just rotted away regardless. Funky!

I think so, it was a long time ago but that’s what I remember the reason was, like chewing stuff cleans off plaque and when it’s not being used to chew it just builds up.

Probably I’m just misremembering though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had a dentist tell me once that the way we take care of our teeth doesn’t matter that much, because genetics has a much stronger influence on what happens to them over time.

I would think that brushing your teeth and having them cleaned by a dentist regularly would prevent plaque build-up, but maybe you were genetically predisposed or something.

It sounds unpleasant. I’m sorry. 😬
