Oman’s territorial waters on the southern side of the Strait of Hormuz is also rendered impassable due to Iranian threats. Since Oman is not a party to this conflict, are they just okay with Iran declaring the entire strait closed and threatening to shell ships passing even through Omani territorial waters?
There’s been endless complaining on the world stage from the United States about the strait being closed, but I haven’t seen anything from Omani officials yet.
I think the reporters at [House of Saud](https:// houseofsaud.com) mentioned that Oman had been consulted by Iran near the start of the conflict, and Iran’s stated goal is Oman and Iran together control shipping through the strait.
Equally though, Oman has been pretty content to sit back and not draw the ire of either side which is sensible enough too. Besides, for a smaller Middle Eastern nation it’s not as if its government openly supporting either side would win it much favour.
I guess that makes sense. If Oman can get a cut of the money while Iran takes the heat for tolling the strait then I would see that being an attractive deal for Oman.
