Dude Where’s My Car.
The Big Lebowski.
What? Low stakes? They’re gonna kill that poor woman!
What about his rug?? It really pulled the room together
Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorites. Wristcutters: A Love Story is also fantastically weird. The opening scene is very… strong. But the rest of the movie has a lighter tone.
Totoro
Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
I am not sure what you mean by low stakes but are some slice of life movies that may fit your list:
- The Straight Story
- Stand By Me
- A River Runs Through It
- The Way Way Back
- The Breakfast Club
- Return of the Secaucus 7
- The Big Chill
- The Four Seasons
- Indian Summer
It’s a cute, slice-of-life movie about a neighborhood in postwar Japan.
Dazed and Confused. It takes place in a 70’s Texas town during the last day of school for a bunch of high schoolers ending in a party in the woods. It plays out the way you’d expect from a bunch of kids looking to have a good time.
Tetsuo, the iron man.
I think.
I have no clue what it was about.
But I’ve watched it a hundred times.
