I prefer the original poster. The new poster still looks like Wicked to me, and I would be disappointed if it recreated the original exactly. The fan edit is fun, I like it, but I understand artists from current year who made the modern poster would want to make a statement different than artists from when the original came out.

30mph (48kmh) is the minimum, cars will also be going faster than that. Also, people need to cross the street, not just walk alongside it. Regardless, whether drivers or pedestrians are the issue, accidents happen. They are more likely to happen, and more likely to be fatal as vehicle speed increases.
From the Institute for Road Safety Research, page 2:
“According to an overview of recent studies (Rósen et al., 2011): at a collision speed of 20 km/h nearly all pedestrians survive a crash with a passenger car; about 90% survive at a collision speed of 40 km/h, at a collision speed of 80 km/h the number of survivors is less than 50%, and at a collision speed of 100 km/h only 10% of the pedestrians survive.”
Areas with minimum speeds of 30mph in areas with pedestrians accept that at least 1 in 10 will die. This is easily reduced to negligible fatalities by having lower speed limits. Not doing so says we care more about saving some of the drivers’ time than the lives of pedestrians.
My thoughts aren’t in a language, so this always confused me as a benchmark.

Whenever I see that line in books, I have taken it to mean a reluctant yes. As if the person is both shaking their head in exasperation and conceding something to the other person.

I find this opinion hard to reconcile with Lemmy users’ general stance that Reddit/Google are in the wrong for using comments to train AI without asking permission.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand cropped memes. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of memetics and linguistics most of the jokes will go over a typical reader’s head. There’s also the high contrast color pallette, which is deftly woven into the message. Lemmy users understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike cropped memes truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in longing for the bottom half of the text, “Join our Discord”. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as the meme’s genius wit unfolds itself on their smartphone screens. What fools…
