  • One of my favorite game publishers, this is wild (and not the Outer kind of wild). I’m super curious if the entire staff will start their own publishing company (which I imagine is harder to do without the financial backing of a billionaire’s daughter) or if they’ll split off and go their separate ways.

I’m also very curious if this will start changing the kinds of games Annapurna publishes or if they’ll still take interest in odd and niche games that need a publisher. I wish I knew more about the dispute here but time will tell what happens next at some point.

  • In Stardew Valley one of the questions the game asks during character creation is “what is your favorite thing?” where you can type anything you deem fit for you (and your character). Without knowing why it asks this (or completely knowing why) means that an honest answer like “tits” can happen organically or specifically just for the chuckles.

Throughout the game, every time you find a Stardrop that increases your total energy bar, you are reminded of whatever favorite thing you entered at the start of the game.

  • Great suggestions here already, I’ll throw a few more on top:

    • Omori (similar and often compared to Earthbound but the silly fun stuff gets darker and more serious as the story goes on)
    • Super Mario RPG (another Squaresoft JRPG from the era of Chrono Trigger and FFVI, very fun and satisfying turn-based combat mechanics, quirky to the max, Squaresoft really had a blast creating a Mario style world. The remaster just released for the Switch, but if you don’t have one then you can easily get a digital port of the original SNES version)
