Technology@lemmy.world•AI kids' toys give explicit and dangerous responses in testsEnglish
133·3 months agoThe article mainly points out a Chinese AI kid toy for spouting chinese propaganda. I mean, obviously?
Their examples from the more popular mainstream toys was that it doesn’t prevent explaining how to light a match and how to sharpen a knife. Neither if those are that ridiculous. If a kid knows to ask they probably old enough to figure it out.

Technology@lemmy.world•Millions turn to AI chatbots for spiritual guidance and confessionEnglish
11·6 months agoI’m not following. People may prefer cheap to expensive but that does not mean they are desperate.
The option isn’t just cheap or expensive therapy. No therapy is as much an option if the therapy quality was 90s level machine chat bot.
Why is it exactly a problem that people have an extra avenue to better mental well being?

11·6 months agoBelieve it or not AI results are doing fine, which is why people use it.
Yes they will produce some funny/tragic results that are both memeable and newsworthy, but by and large they do what they are asked.
If the results were poor you wouldn’t have adoption and your AI problem is solved.
We have had chat bots since the late 90s. No one used them for therapy.

2·6 months agoFor some people, paying with their data is a lot cheaper than paying for therapy or religion. I do not fault them for this, especially if they are getting similar results.

36·6 months agoWhy? Is it somehow better to go to an actual church or pay someone to confide in?
People using technology to fill a need on the company’s funds is not the worst thing in the world.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft CFO calls for 'intensity' in an internal memo, after blowout earningsEnglish
72·8 months agoBig companies are subject to constant audits. You, too, can check their balance sheets that are released and scrutinize the numbers.
While you may personally dislike MS products, most of the world’s businesses and governments run on them. That’s licensing money every month without fail. They can literally charge whatever they want because companies with staff want Office and Windows Server backend.
I think it’s misunderstood that the ending is the issue when it’s really_the execution_ that failed.
At the end of the day whatever the ending was going to be some people will hate it and others will nitpick the logic plot holes. However everyone got to where they were supposed to be in the story.
It was the terrible time jumps and sudden twists and deaths and poorly displaying it on screen that made the last season really disappointing.
Also the series had the unfortunate fate of peaking in season 4. Compared with Breaking Bad which had its best episode in the last season.
but what else would you call a company that promotes fascists and strictly polices leftists
That last part is relevant, because thats not what YouTube does and what makes it a conspiracy
This is odd to say when the YouTube algorithm has been proven to push right wing propaganda.
This is not a conspiracy. The conspiracy is saying YouTube does this because they are right wing company.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How is the Stock Market keeping it's value after *points to everything*?
01·1 year agoSo it’s a valid question to ask why all of the current fuckery has not translated into market chaos.
My reply addresses this with your 2nd point. What I’m trying to say is that maybe the market did factor in the fuckery and has so far believed it to be a nothing burger.
Everyone could be wrong, of course, but so far that is what the markets indicates. So naturally the follow up questions should be, are the markets wrong? Or am I (OP) consuming too much media from my bubble which is overexaggerating the doom and gloom?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How is the Stock Market keeping it's value after *points to everything*?
71·1 year agoYou kind of get it with your own answer but are refusing to see it.
Why hasn’t the market dropped yet with all the fuckery going on in DC? Because the impact of said fuckery has not occurred yet. Let this be a chance for some awareness of your own personal information bubble and possible over doom scrolling.
This is not saying this administration isn’t going to cause some terrible shit. It just hasn’t stuck yet. Nothing the administration has done has prevented Microsoft or Google or Netflix from collecting their subscription fees. The closest thing so far has been tariffs that came and went.
You’re being purposely dishonest when you argue that the issues of the US 50 years ago are the same as they are today. Inflation isn’t something that goes away. It’s a necessity in for a growing economy. Abortion is politically still here but views on sexuality and women are not the same as it was 50 years ago.
Our issues are bad and still probably get worse before they get better but I still would not trade places with China. As I said it’s easier when you are still a developing nation but their issues are not something you’d envy.
They have a real estate problem that can end their economy, a gender disparity due to their 1 child policy that will leave generations of men without any hopes of finding a partner, and they still get to deal with the same education inflation problem that exists everywhere: all children spending their whole lives studying to get into the few good universities but without that good job waiting for them.
Vietnam is still developing so there is a lot of room for growth, but China already has a mountain of issues bubbling under the surface.
How well do you think your comment will age in 3 to 5 years?

it’s short sighted, because an ai chat bot that can answer basic surface level questions 24/7 should absolutely be more cost effective than having staff field the same questions. You can have half of them be the escalation point and assign different work to the other half. For the population of NYC this is the right approach.
However I would accept that the previous administration was corrupt and overpaid an incompetent contractor. Mamdani should restart the project, not scrap it.
