Technology@lemmy.world•Valve Announces New Steam Machine, Steam Controller & Steam FrameEnglish
8·23 days agoLooks can be deceiving. Coming from someone who uses the steamdeck, that layout looks exactly how I hoped and imagined it would be. The steamdeck is incredibly comfortable to hold and this looks like it would be the same!
I appreciate those people, they are subsidizing it for us adblock users!

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•After 2 years on Lemmy, I finally installed it this weekend.
2·3 months agoI am going to distro hop and experiment with it a bit more before I make the switch, I haven’t thought about things such as my peripherals being incompatible under Linux until I tried it for myself. I couldn’t use some of the buttons on my mouse (Logitech G502) to change things such as the DPI/sensitivity, and my headset (Arctis Novo Pro Wireless) also had similar issues, both of which use software that is only made for Windows. :(

5·1 year agoYeah I only have used the steam deck, but I imagine the alternative Windows based handhelds feel much more clunky/hacky since Windows has issues suspending things in general, especially games. Maybe they fixed some of the issues on that end by now, but I feel like SteamOS is really the best and most viable option here for these other companies looking to cash in on this trend. Especially since Windows is bloated as is and not really made for this type of thing.
Not sure if Valve does this already, but perhaps they could license out SteamOS to other manufacturers too? It would make Valve’s “competition” more lucrative for them. At the very least, I hope more people start using SteamOS so Linux gaming gets more adoption as time goes on. Valve has done absolute wonders for the linux community with Proton.
Because there’s always going to be someone who says the distro you liked the most is not the distro you should be using. (I use Arch btw)

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube’s ad blocker crackdown now includes third-party appsEnglish
26·2 years agoWhat they don’t realize is people are also using those third party apps because they are offering much more customization than the stock YouTube app ever offers. I had free premium and still used Revanced because it’s such a godsend. There’s so much useless crap in the youtube layout.

It’s somehow a fucking reality now…
