No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If the color of the Sun was orange, wouldn't the clouds and everything white also be orange? My friend is adamant that 30 years ago the "real" Sun was orange but got replaced with a white LED.English
1571·5 days agoYes. If the sun was orange, the light would be orange, and everything white would be orange.
The fact that your friend believes the sun was replaced by a giant LED is a sign they should not be your friend anymore

8·8 days agoLoL!!!
If you were born in the year 10 000BC and you were immortal and somehow saved $1,000.00 every week. 1 2026 years later you still wouldn’t have a billion dollars.
And if you saved even $10,000.00 per week, you wouldn’t even be at half that amount. Less than a tenth even.

1·10 days agoFor desktop apps you’ll be fine for the most part. But if you need to install a module for your hardware or some other system software it gets more complicated.

681·17 days agoJust don’t bring it. Bring a digital pocket camera instead to document stuff.
Nowadays, you can’t use a mobile phone without signing in to some Google service or Apple. It’s mandatory. Giving them access to every data you own.

2·26 days agoThat’s interesting. I kind of feel the same way. Snap seem great and have improved a bit. But it lacks certain controls that Flatpak has.
It also covers more than just desktop apps, you can install a lot of other software in sandboxes.

91·27 days agoI can’t recommend to a newcomer a distro that can potentially break or introduce bugs or vulnerabilities with software that’s too bleeding edge. That’s why I’ll never recommend Arch or even Fedora. And Bazzite is really too gaming focused and you can only install software through flatpaks. (I know there’s other ways, but we’re talking about newbies here. We need to keep it simple.)

2·27 days agoI think Zorin OS did a really good job at customizing Gnome to make it the way it should have been. As for limiting customizeability, I don’t think that’s necessarily bad. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by KDE’s customization options. Vanilla Gnome has too little. Zorin’s desktop is just right.
But that’s my opinion.

6·27 days agoHey! Welcome to the fediverse!
Just have it open in your home router configuration to forward traffic somewhere.
Or you can have an SSH server running on a small VM and you can route traffic there and watch the logs. Like a honeypot type of thing.
