However the plot needs them to.
Magical Girl Transformation Sequences.
Depends on the superhero. Many just change by spinning around really fast, like magic or something. Spider-man puts it on like swimwear, while Iron Man gives all the parts of his armour rockets that fly to his body (and eventually I think it’s nanobots that form the suit)
Spidey wears his under his clothes. So does Superman for that matter. Spidey keeps his mask in a pocket.
The tricky part is what they do with their regular clothes when they’re busy being a hero.
At least in Spider-Man’s case, the comics have shown that he spins a bag to put the clothes in and hangs it in an out-of-the-way place.
What Superman does is less clear, but he can move at impossible speeds, so he might just fold them neatly and take them home, still leaving ample time to do whatever he needs.
I find it funny that the flash has the costume in a ring and then changes clothes really fast. He could just run home, get dressed and run back and no one would know
Clark Kent’s clothes are made of some kind of super fabric that doesn’t wrinkle. Superman folds and compresses his civvies into a small square about the size of a wallet, and keeps it in a pocket in his cape.
If Superman was already heading home with his clothes, why wear the outfit underneath at all??
I posit he just crushes it down to the molecular level with super strength and hides it in his ear.
Nanomachines, son.
More importantly, how do they go to the bathroom mid-patrol?
Comic book artists are not (all) fashion designers, so the artistic leeway that also lets them render imperfect images of humanoids in fight sequences also applies to the practicality of their costumes.
Presumably said costumes are donned piecemeal, similar to how the actual costumes of cosplayets and superhero actors are donned. Spiderman and deadpool look like they’re wearing full body sewn-on gimp suits, but are “really” just wearing some overlapping layers that the artist (usually) doesn’t depict.
(Except of course for things like the venom symbiote, mystique’s shapechanging, or those weird pseudo-nudists like hulk, silver surfer, and thosd green lantern freaks…)
Old school wonder woman used to show how on tv
The Flash keeps his suit inside his ring. Clark Kent wears the Superman outfit underneath. Batman is night time only. Wonder Woman has an invisible airplane to change in if she needs to, but mostly she just dresses like that. Green Lantern, the ring’s powers create the costume.

They don’t.
They aren’t real.
