Can you link the reddit post you reposted this from? I wanna see how they clarify the age of the shark, because, surely not…

I think its just poorly worded and is referring to the age of the species as opposed to this specific shark.

As an eight million year old ape, I believe they could do a better job being clear about what they meant.

Well, if I’m remembering correctly, humans’ branch of the hominoids branched off from the other apes 15-20MYA, so you’re actually over twice as old as you think!

Unless you’re sensitive about your age, then you can be 8MY old if you want.

Wikipedia says “The last split, between the human and chimpanzee–bonobo lineages, took place around 8–4 million years ago, in the late Miocene epoch,” but what do they know? Also, I’m a known fool, so I could be reading it wrong.

              flies to Wikipedia

Neat! I love new evidence. It seems newer biochem evidence indicates 6.5-9.3 MYA for the last common human/hominin ancestor.

Guess I know what I’m hyperfocusing on today.

Sanitation, this news is over three months old.

The journal article and a press release from the university instead of just a claim and a JPEG’d-as-fuck image.

They have no idea, they just look at whatever the top post is on an equivalent subreddit and post the title and image. It’s like a repost bot account run by a human.

Scientists: “wow, we’ve never seen a goblin shark this deep and this far from where we would expect! We have so much more to learn!”

Goblin shark: “fuck, i am sooo lost right now”
