Our whole heritage is being a melting pot of every heritage mixed together. Blood nationalism makes ZERO sense whatsoever.

Actually your heritage is that of native American genocide, centuries of African slavery, and then countless illegal wars of aggression.

Basing the value of a response on the user’s Lemmy instance has to be amongst the stupidest forms of tribalism in human history.

There’s a pretty good chance that user will, in the same breath, go: Jefferson bad, Stalin good. Because authoritarians and genocides perpetrated by entities pretending to be communist are somehow excusable.

Edit: I rest my case. You’ll notice their immediate jump to whataboutism, strawman arguments, and childish demands for you to research why their “nuh uh” is wrong.

This guy must have something wrong with them.

This comment is literally whataboutism, they clearly don’t understand what a straw an argument is, and the childish demands are us simply asking for him to explain himself.

                What a joke, lol.

Genocidal slavers like Jefferson are, indeed, bad.
Not sure why a person took part in massively improving the rights and living conditions of the working class and fighting against the original nazis should be considered bad in comparison with enthusiastic slavers.

Just admit it - you only said that because you have been bombarded your whole life with propaganda about how the most vile polity in the world is somehow good, while Stalin is somehow bad for some reason.

Two things can both be bad. This is what you mls never seem to grasp.

And It’s not for some reason. He killed so many people. No one can take you seriously when you praise a monster like Stalin.

Two things can both be bad.

They can, but they aren’t in this case.

And It’s not for some reason. He killed so many people.

Killing nazis is not a bad thing, actually. Nor were they ‘his own people’.

No one can take you seriously when you praise a monster like Stalin.

You are yet to actually explain why he is supposedly such a ‘monster’. Just admit that your sole source of information on Stalin has been memes from the same people that sold you on Iraq’s WMDs.
And no, again, killing nazis is not a bad thing.

You never answered the question. You don’t think that he did good by saving Europe from Nazi extermination?

The second thing: You mean the last famine that ever happened in a famine prone region, lol?

Weirdly enough, no actual experts on these topic can point to any supposed genocide that he committed. The only people who assert so are the ones who get their knowledge of history from unsubstantiated memes.

.ml users have a pretty poor reputation in the fediverse as braindead ideologues who swarm and spam posts that don’t jive with their beliefs. It’s like having a neighbor constantly chucking dogshit over the fence and blaming you for the smell XD

Kind of silly to call people that keep being proven correct, and whose ideology(ies) are related to the world getting things like 8-hour working day, women getting basic rights, and decolonisation as ‘braindead’.

Are you actually claiming that the ‘heritage’ of the country that engaged in slavery and multiple genocides, and still engage in such today is not any of those things?

Melting pot? I wouldn’t call it that. More like a 70s jell-o salad: all the ingredients are visible, but separate. There’s alarmingly little miscegenation in the US. Go anywhere in Latin America and you can see true melting pots.

Very few, that doesn’t take away from the fact that we’re still a nation of immigrants and should reject the lie of a unified American heritage.

Genocidal settler-colonialism is not “immigration”, and neither is being enslaved and transported over the Atlantic ocean.

There are plenty of folks who came over after the bulk of the genocide was largely done. Don’t think an Italian coming over in the 1910s had fuck all to do with the Native American genocide.

But even ignoring that you are assuming that this is all a black and white situation when people are rarely that. For example the early Scots-Irish population in Appalachia generally got along well enough with native Americans often times even mixing together, you could also have the later Irish immigrants from the Irish genocide by the English inflicting the same fate apon Native Americans in the great planes.

Hell my own ancestors did seemingly contradictory shit as being slavers while murdering people for being bigots against Native Americans. Only for a generation later to be fighting for the abolishment of slavery and arming natives while really fucking hating newer Anglo settlers to the point of commiting hate crimes.

The US did not stop at that genocide.

And yet, what the (pre-)USians were doing was still predominantly a settler-colonial genocide, regardless of whether there were a few nice exceptions.
