A bit meh… weather has been absolute dogshit all week… The wind and rain have started causing my early onset arthritis to play up and I’ve been struggling as a result to crack on with some DIY jobs I needed to finish. Then errands, running my elderly mum about for appointments because she decided to schedule appts in the same fucking place on 2 different fucking days… AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Then wanted me to take her to meet my sister on Friday 30 miles away.
However… here’s the upsides.
My step-niece had her 2nd child and 2nd boy. Finally finished the prep on the bedroom on Thurs evening, plasterer starts Monday… so painting should commence end of next week. I went out for brunch on Tues & Weds whilst waiting for her to finish her appointments… woohoo, 2 cooked brekkies in a row. I was able to sort out lifts for her for Thurs, so I didn’t have to interrupt my work yet again because she expects me to drop everything at her command (I don’t). Dropped her off to go to the cinema with my sister to see some Downton Abbey movie, and I went and got a nice coffee and some cake.
Came back home and played Cyberpunk 2077 for a few hrs this afternoon until my partner got home.
We’re now about to have an early night ;) and watch a little netflix… probably chill.
Aye not too bad, selling our gaff and looks like we’ll get an offer this week.
Been listening to The Clash a fair bit this week too, been a while. Class.
Last week was incredible. I took Friday off to prepare for a weekend trip to Weymouth (and play a little Silksong, finished act I finally), as my wife was interviewing for a job there. Everyone was friendly, the library is a pillar of the community, and we stayed at the Royal Oak, which was extremely pleasant. Sounds like they like her for the job, too. Great stuff.
So far this week is less charmed, work needs to be busier and we’re in the middle of being acquired so everything’s feeling a little off.
Juggling a bunch of random house/DIY tasks and work tasks, and not entirely losing my marbles in the process.
This week I’m staring at a collar beam in the loft that sweeps across from one pair of runners to the other, and lies directly over the loft hatch, meaning I bang my head on it constantly
/ \ /_____\ <-- the horizontal is the "collar beam" / \ the diagonals are "rafters"
I wanna get a loft-ladder in there, but there’s simply not enough vertical room with this thing hanging over the hatch. I’m debating on whether to unscrew it and relocate it to an adjacent set of runners, but am nervous that the whole roof might come down.
Logic dictates I should just buy another 6m 2x4" plank, affix that to the correct location, and then remove the annoying one, but a single plank costs 70 quid and I have no car at the moment and timber merchants don’t typically deliver wood to your door.
There’s no tension in the beam (it literally wobbles when I touch it), so I figure it’s safe, but still am nervous to start something I might not be able to finish
I’m here to provide no answers whatsoever and admire the ASCII art. I am a simple man.

I recently purchased a single OSB board & the local. Wickes branch delivered it for about a fiver. Delivery service was new to me. Whether they will have the length/type of wood you’re after is another matter but worth knowing.
I checked Wickes but the longest plank they do on their website is 2.4m.
I do think I was wrong about the 70 quid thing though, since I was looking at C24 grade wood (thinking that meant “two by four”, but no it’s a treatment standard…) and C16 wood is much cheaper and still structurally sound. Still, nothing at 6m.
Past week was good. Yesterday I made beef wellington for the first time ever, and it was not a complete disaster. That counts as a win.
alright mate yeah cheers, how was yours?
Went to a local indoor stadium event venue thing on the weekend, £9.30 for a pint, fuck me
Fuck me that’s expensive! Need to start sneaking in alcohol like I did when younger
Good thanks. Had my child’s birthday party at a laser quest. Me and two of the dads were trying to be nice but they kept ganging up on us and not bothering shooting each other so we ended up topping the leader board, bit of a hollow victory but secretly feeling good about it! How was yours?
OMG… I used to run a childrens after school project and we were full time during the school hols… So many times we’d organise outings to the lasertag place near us… Had no idea they still existed, it’s probably been almost 20yrs or so… lasertag, roller skating, those activity centres with slides, ropes, tunnels and ball pits… afternoon trips to the cinema to watch a Pixar movie in the summer hols and at least 3 times during the summer break… a big day out to a theme park, museums and other interesting places like cabury world where you can get the kids sick on chocolate samples after scoffing as many as they can and then putting them on a coach for the 2hr drive back… Didn’t do that trip again. :)
Stressful as fuck at work. Compounded by my wife also being stressed out at work. Weekend was alright though thanks
