It’s when people think they have a relationship with someone they don’t actually know. Usually celebrities, but basically they think the target is talking specifically to them during their performances.
I think its also used to describe the more sane version of it that goes like:
“I know personal details about this persons life from watching their YouTube channel for years despite the fact the I’m a stranger to them, and that’s kinda fuckin weird to think about.”
I’ve fallen into a old school version of something like that where I’d read some writings by someone for years and now I’m in a position where several acquaintances know them personally. Which is awkward as all hell.
The thing about even the sane version is that you have to keep in mind you only know the face they publish, not the actual person
Oh yeah for sure, especially now that people are getting called out for doing shitty things constantly, its almost hard not to be suspect of the shit people let out in public these days.
