Gas prices are the actual red line for a significant segment of Americans. The world can be on fucking fire, but it’s ok as long as gas is cheap.

      • Oh fun fact: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_emperor_syndrome

My older brother was gonna be a “little emperor” but then my mom gave birth to me in violation of the One Child Policy… so now we have a beef… kinda feels like those Chinese TV Dramas about Emperors and their sons fighting to become the heir…

My mom constantly tell about some cousin that made millions on a business trip abroad and be like: “why aren’t you like them”

Criticism against the system is dismissed, any issues you face is a character flaw, depression doesn’t exist, “just be better”

Like I doubt my parents care about ethics… hypothetically I could be in the mafia and make billions selling illegal drugs and she’d be “proud” as long as I don’t get caught. Or some extremely corrupt politician.

The takeaway I got from my parents is that: “Money = Good”

The dollar generally went further than the four years after he left office and that was his entire campaign selling point for the vast majority of Americans. “Remember when things were affordable right before the pandemic? And then Joe Biden took office and things were more expensive?”

But obviously the affordability of day to day life had very little to do with Biden’s policy and more to do with global trajectory and many of Biden’s policies did slow the approach to today’s economy. And Trump really just strapped a rocket engine to the economy in the direction of late stage capitalism once he was back in office.

Almost like he just sorta, lied to them… Like he always has…

But, yes - us Yanks don’t realize we are the most heavily propagandized people in the world. Take something like the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of school, for instance; in Amerikkka, normal. But everyone else finds it creepy and unsettling…

Because the average American voter’s memory is so fucking short they don’t remember all the shit that made the dollar go farther was scheduled to end right after his term ended. They don’t remember how the first teem was full of ‘all gas no breaks’ economic relief to pump up the market, so there was little to no wiggle room once they ran out.

Plus, that whole pandemic thing. And we’re not getting into how he made that so much worse, that’s a whole other topic.

Factually incorrect, judging by the fact that not only has Donald lost basically every election in 2025 and 2026, but the majority of those elections he’s lost were in districts he won by double digits in 2024, both red and blue states.

Americans are so pissed off about the child rape that Republicans can’t even gerrymander anymore, because they can’t accurately predict where they have voter support.

And, everyone on this thread just pretending the meme is true, perhaps think through it a little before responding.

Donald lost basically every election in 2025 and 2026

      :-/

I gotta double check, but I’m pretty sure Donald wasn’t on the ballot in '25 and '26. I think you’re underselling the rest of the GOP field, which has actually under-performed Trump himself even in the good years and is now outright shitting itself in the bad ones.

But that’s not really the gist of the meme. Might be worth noting that Epstein was as deeply embedded with Dems as Repubs, having allied with liberal luminaries like Larry Summers, Kathy Ruemmler, and - of course - Bill Clinton. Meanwhile, roll the calendar back a couple years to the Biden Era DOJ and you find zero shits given about Epstein when Dems had control of both Congress and the Executive Branch.

Then you’ve got “Kids In Cages”, which was a very big deal right before the '16, '20, and '24 election cycles, but suddenly stopped mattering the day after. Actual concern for real human children does not seem to move the needle on public support/opposition to a politician. It’s just a rhetorical cudgel to swing.

If anything, the sadism inherent in immigration politics seems to get a certain sector of the voting base off.

And, everyone on this thread just pretending the meme is true

Slapping a sticker with a President’s face on it next to a gas station price tag has been common practice since the Bush Era. Very common for apparatchiks to hem and haw over the cost of a gallon.

But when it comes to child sexual abuse? crickets

The president has historically been a factor. Trump’s broken with the trend, typically running several points ahead of the party as a whole.

After three electoral samples (more than most presidential candidates can ever claim), we’ve repeatedly seen people voting just for Trump and nobody else. Like, vote Trump, leave the rest of the ballot blank. Back in 2016, it was described as a “negative coat-tails” effect. Now, it’s more described as a pure cult of personality. Trump sucks in people who generally don’t like either party to vote exclusively for him.

winning or at least making huge gains

What are the odds that the Democrats win the Senate, even in a landscape with +15 D turnout?

Dems still have to defend somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-4 seats and are in a position to gain… maybe +3-4? Six on a truly historic landslide. Which puts them right back where they were in 2020, with John Fetterman filling in for Joe Manchin / Joe Lieberman, and everyone has to peg their hopes on Platner or Slotkin not going completely sour.

This is not swing districts moving half a point.

Go back to 2018 and remind yourself of how Democrats played themselves against Trump in his first term. Two years later, how did Biden behave?

At some point, you have to see this for what it is. We have two business parties, each of which are jockeying to be the champions of a handful of deeply reactionary Silicon Valley trillionaires and their buddies at JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. What do you think a Dem Majority is going to do about ICE in 2027? What do you think they’re going to do with the Epstein Files? What do you think they’re going to do about Iran?

Go back to 2021. Go back to 2012 and 2008. Go back to 1993 or 1977. There’s a pattern here, for those with eyes to see.

Not to give excuses for people but it’s also perfectly reasonable to express concern for something that directly affects one’s daily life, rather than before an abstract system of domination.

Moral evaluation is overridden when one’s purchasing power and thus livelihood is threatened. The Yellow Vests in France started because of a gas price hike, and then transformed into a political movement. The Boston Tea Party into the American Revolution. Police Corruption in Tunisia into the Arab Spring… It always starts with concrete issues and then expands in critic of the system.

It is not half of Americans. It is at least 66% of them. A third of all Americans voted for Trump. Another third sat out and consciously chose not to vote. Then a third voted against him.

For me, it’s not “you didn’t vote, so you support Trump”, it’s “you didn’t vote, which says you were fine with any of the available candidates, how they presented themselves, and their plans for this nation. You were fine with any of them being President.” Anybody who was fine with Trump being President gets criticism from me.

Hell, I give more credit to somebody who put a write-in vote for “my cat: Sir Fluffykins, esq. III” because at least that person would make their voice heard that no candidate was acceptable.

            They do.

But it’s not a Republican vs Democrat thing. It’s empathy vs not. As a social species, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that those without empathy are fundamentally broken and need fixing. You can’t have a functioning society with no empathy. And we benefit from a functioning society.

But there is a fix. Empathy can be learned. It’s not magic, it’s practice. And those who refuse to learn shouldn’t be welcome in society.

Fuck it. I’m no longer responding to this thread. If you can’t understand that dehumanizing them and attacking their ideals is bad (politically bad) I don’t have anything else to say.

We need to reason with them, not fight. Everyone believes what they’re doing is good, if you attack that, you’re the bad one and they won’t listen to you anymore.

I am not part of the discussion but you answered to a completely civil argument. People not agreeing with you is not a bad thing. If you think you are right, make counter points. Otherwise try to guess why their views differ and over think your own opinion. It is a good thing to get convinced by somebody else’s opinion, both win in that case.

Your logic results in deranged people killing and abusing non deranged people “who just want to reason”.

You cannot reason with zealots who want you dead. This is a suicidal mindset that you have. Why not just give up and let the bad guys win?

You just think I’m the other guy. I didn’t say dehumanize. I said they’re not suitable for society and need to be fixed.

They’re still human. They’re just douchebags. And we don’t have to tolerate those.

i just want to comment that what you say is sane from a political point of view. don’t listen to the knee-jerk reaction here, it’s “monkey sees enemy, monkey clicks button” type of stuff.

just to give some examples, the big historical movements like religion in the medieval ages were successful largely because they managed to unify all people in society somehow. by providing common grounds. and that’s the same ideals of humanity, of democracy, that people claim to defend on here.

we can’t protect democracy by taking away the humanity, by not considering the other one human anymore. because at that point, democracy is already dead.

You are kind of proving their point here. You are trying to reason with them, but in your mind they are not being reasonable, so you are disengaging because you don’t see how further engagement can be useful. Instead, you just call them the bad one.

This is exactly the process you are arguing against. People are not being reasonable, so you can’t expect reason to be convincing.

I recently learned that an austism symptom is a strong sense of justice that is not swayed easily.

I always wondered why i cared so much more about doing the right thing instead if what people think is right or what law says.

actually i thought of this recently and came up with the concept of a “coherence length” which describes the distance up to which you still care about things … so if it’s 50 km then you care about things that happen within 50 km around you.

Sadly it is a very human thing. Most people are entirely content to ignore anything outside their monkeysphere.
